M: Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus (2022 A-Z)

Men are from Mars Women are from Venus

“Look at that view, it’s amazing!” he yells.

“Nope, not moving, I want this side of the bed,” I say firmly.

“You’ll get such a lovely breeze there,” he says, trying a new reason.

I shake my head.

“Even the washroom’s closer to that side,” he pleads.

“Not budging.”

“Come on, Anaya, it’s important to me!”

“Pray, tell me why!”

“I must sleep closer to the door. It’s a matter of security. I am a man, I got to protect my family!”

“From what? Cockroaches? Lizards?”

I hear my 16-year-old snort and laugh just as my husband explains “It’s evolution!”

That men and women have had different views of how the world works is a long-known fact. However, studies like those referenced in Men are from Mars Women are from Venus or Why Men Don’t Listen and Women Can’t Read Maps lend pretty interesting reasonings into why it could be evolution driven. For example: In the olden ages, when men would go hunting, they would singularly isolate and focus on the prey they were hunting. Women took care of N+ children while also simultaneously managing animals at home, watching the food cook etc, which gave them a more wide-angle range of vision and multi-tasking mind. Subsequently, this same singular/multi focus apparently influences driving as well. Obviously, all of these are open to debate. However, the reason I choose this book (and its sequel), is because they offer up interesting explanations even if just as a matter of perspective.

I have written this 100-word flash fiction for the 2022 Edition of the Blogging A-Z Challenge, a blogging event held every April. Click here to read more on the challenge!
